It all started around the Tazelaar family kitchen table in the Zeeland-Flemish village of Waterlandkerkje. In 1995 fruit cultivator Henk Tazelaar decided to introduce cloudy apple juice onto the market. De Appelaere met with resounding success and ten years later in 2005 this was succeeded by De Perelaere. De Sinaasappelaere was launched in 2007.
After its success in The Netherlands, in 2011 De Appelaere headed across the border to Belgium. Then in 2013, to Denmark. It was in that year that De Appelaere won the Pioneer’s Award. That proved to be an exceptional compliment paid by Zeelander consumers to Zeelander entrepreneurs, acknowledging 'daring, guts, inventiveness, and an entrepreneurial and pioneering spirit'. Soon thereafter the consumers awarded De Appelaere the 'Best Product of 2014-2015'; a unique moment that coincided with the twenty year founding anniversary of De Appelaere in 2015.
De Appelaere continues to steadily grow. Scandinavia loves cloudy fruit juice it seems. Three years after the Danish launch, since 2016, the fruit juices are also being sold in Sweden.
